Our business values were borne out of the vision and experience of our founder and managing partner, Senior Advocate Parsuram Koirala.

Koirala and Associates Pvt. Ltd. was founded by Senior Advocate Parsuram Koirala in 2002, right after the conclusion of his Master of Laws (LLM) programme from the prestigious University of Mumbai (estd. 1857) earlier in the same year. Previously, Mr. Koirala trained under the then leaders of the Nepalese Bar at Dyad Law Associates between 1993 and 2002, after having obtained his Bar license in 1993.

Even before practising as an advocate, Mr. Koirala was equipped with natural curiosity and the desire to learn, often reading about three books a day. This desire of his pushed him to prepare thoroughly and carefully as a lawyer, all the while witnessing the positive results accompanying such a preparation. To cite an example, Mr. Koirala successfully argued his very first case as a qualified lawyer in front of the Supreme Court itself, in a novel matter concerning the habeas corpus writ. He resolved a contentious legal issue concerning the writ through astute statutory interpretation, greatly aiding in the clarification of the law. This led him to appreciate the power proper preparation and critical thought could bring- which is now reflected in our conscientiousness value. The quality of his work is clearly reflective of the effort and thought put into it, something top judges and clients often admire.

In the course of his constant learning, Mr. Koirala particularly resonated with the idea of doing one’s best for the sake of doing one’s best, which he attributes to the Bhagavad Gita. For Mr. Koirala, every task is to be done to the best of one’s potential- which is now reflected in our excellence value. Thus, it is unsurprising that he acted as counsel in some of the most complex and first-of-a-kind work demanding excellence, such as successfully defending the sitting Deputy Prime Minister and top civil servants in the first three Special Court and/or Supreme Court cases brought under the Prevention of Corruption Act 2059, the earliest intellectual property deals and civil suits in Nepal, and the structuring and drafting of some of the earliest residential infrastructure projects in Nepal. Mr. Koirala’s quest for excellence can be reflected through his extra-legal endeavours: be it as a fund supervisor, independent director, legislation advisor, or by him undertaking professional and academic study programmes to ‘sharpen his axe’.

Given his excellence, Mr. Koirala was offered the highest judicial office, which he politely turned down with utmost respect in order to pursue his goal of growing into the top advocate in his field.

For Mr. Koirala, just doing his best was insufficient. A lawyer had to be professional, ethical, and moral too- which now finds form as our integrity value. Integrity takes different forms for Mr. Koirala, including giving honest, competent and achievable advice, providing pro-bono services to the needy, and maintaining the highest levels of confidentiality at every stage of a client relationship. Not only does this give his clients the confidence of being treated competently, Mr. Koirala also serves as a role model for integrity in the Bar, leading to the establishment of a professional and competent Nepalese Bar. Recognised as a visionary leader of the Bar, Mr. Koirala is regularly invited to address the Nepalese legal fraternity in matters of professional development, court practice, and contemporary legal issues.

Mr. Koirala is recognised as a visionary not just in the legal sphere, but also in the political sphere due to his astute political analyses. Given his past experience as special advisor to the Cabinet of Ministers and illustrious legal experience, among other experiences, Mr. Koirala has appeared in different national TV and radio interviews to discuss legal, political, social and religious issues.
